A STEM Toy to Educate Kids About Farming
Working on a team with a Mechanical Engineer and an Electrical Engineer, I helped design a product from concept to commercialization that served as an educational tool kit for hydroponic farming: an open-ended kit that would help educate anyone about the value of hydroponic farming through action. The kit included everything that our customer needed to grow their very own plant hydroponically. Additionally, it provided a variety of materials that allowed the customer just enough creative freedom to feel ownership over the learning experience without resulting in a feeling of unguided frustration. Hooked on Hydroponics was developed within design and course constraints and was deeply connected to the needs of external stakeholders. The product has since been packaged and distributed on a local scale and is used annually as a teaching tool at the Bucknell University Engineering Summer Camp.
